Robotics Platform

Each FTC kit, or robotics platform, used in competition is specifically developed to expose teams to real-world technology. Heavy-duty elements including metal gears, motors, plates, channels, and more are included in each kit to provide teams with everything they need to build a competition robot. No welding or fabrication is needed, so each 1,200+ part FTC kit is reusable for multiyear competition use.

Controller, Programming, and Sensors

The FTC platform is controlled by the LEGO® NXT Brick, a 32-bit microprocessor that can be programmed using your choice of LEGO MINDSTORMS® Education NXT 2.0 Software, LabVIEW™, or ROBOTC®, all of which are included in the base kit. Programs can be transferred from the computer to the NXT Brick via USB cable. The NXT Brick is the same controller used in FLL, making the transition from FLL to FTC easier and more cost efficient.

The FTC kit also includes a variety of LEGO sensors. When combined with the NXT Brick, the sensors expand the robot’s functions, enabling it to complete a variety of challenges.
